Having followed photographer Skander Khlif‘s journeys around Italy via his previous collections, we wanted to share his most recent stop in Bologna. His bold, cinematic compositions create a consuming sense of immediacy for the viewer, with bicycle wheels, people and pigeons (his startled pigeons are becoming a signature at this point) crashing the foreground in a manner that allows us to crash the scene too. Previous projects in Siena and Florence have led to his latest set which sees him alight in Bologna, where the sights and sounds of the city are evoked with his typical attention to detail. Shooting in both black and white and colour, Khlif’s harnessing of light and shadow and his eye for movement result in a selection of beautiful pictures that conjure a series of movements and moments that begin to tell the story of the city.
Born in Tunis in 1983, Khlif is a documentary photographer whose work has taken him around the world. He was most recently a winner at the Italian Street Photography Festival. See more of his work here and from our archives.
