Thais Varela is a photographer based between Mexico and Spain whose work splits the commercial and creative, her fine art, still life, and portraiture create evocative imagery whether for clients or her personal projects. Her series La Zona del Silencio takes viewers on a deep dive into the Mexican state of Chihuahua, where her lens has sought out the beauty of the landscape, its people, and its homes.
Without describing her work as a documentary, Varela nonetheless captures what feels like the essence of the place, her focused compositions lit in golden sunlight conjuring an emotive, atmospheric, sensory response that is almost tangible.
