Stijn Hoekstra is a commercial and documentary photographer based in Amsterdam who has shot work for the likes of corporations including DHL, BMW, and Vodafone, and created personal projects in destinations from Tokyo to Cuba. His latest series is the culmination of a 2021 adventure to Mozambique where a commission for Columbus Travel led him to travel along the coast from north to south, during which he recorded a cachet of breathtaking images that explore both the landscape and its people.
Throughout his images, Hoekstra skilfully translates the beauty of a place which seems to radiate a sense of lightness. Along gorgeous undeveloped coastline, boats wait patiently on sand banks, fisherman and women pose, groups of friends hang out playing games, and the landscape quietly dominates with its rich mix of deep dark and light blues, golden white sands, and straw-hued foliage bleached by a relentless sun that seems constantly on the edge of golden hour.
Stijn Hoektra’s Mozambique is a two-part series. See more of his work here.
